Week 12 | October 30 - November 3, 2023
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last week was a great week at SHCS! Thank you for trusting us with your student.
Our Philosophy Statement begins with:
Sacred Heart Catholic School exists to strengthen our parish community through the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and aesthetic formation of our students.
We are so blessed to have Father Tim to lead us spiritually; a strong curriculum that is taught and supplemented by strong teachers; a PE program that focuses on physical fitness while having fun; loving teachers who support our students emotionally; opportunities for varied social interactions among friends, with creative art and music programs that encourage our students to develop aesthetically by helping them perceive beauty in our environment. Your student is immersed in a well-rounded, exciting, busy school, with varied activities to engage all students in hopes that they will grow academically and spiritually, going out to not only our parish community but to the world to make it a better place. All of that happens every day at Sacred Heart Catholic School.
8th Grade Pizza Sale
The 8th graders sold $288.50 worth of pizza last Monday. Wow! Thank you for supporting the 8th graders' efforts to raise money for their Legacy Project. The next pizza days will be November 6 and 27.
Lunches with Families
Thank you for attending our lunch last Tuesday for Hispanic Heritage Month, if you were able to do so. We had over 60 guests! We will have two opportunities for families to come eat lunch with students next month. You can bring lunch or order a hot lunch. Everyone is welcome to join us:
- Friday, November 10 in recognition of Veterans Day - Hot lunch that day will be pepperoni pizza.
- Wednesday, November 29 in recognition of Native American Heritage Month - Hot lunch that day will be Red Chile Posole.
Color Run
Our Color Run was amazing and we have almost $30,000 in donations and pledges! Students should have their pledge sheet and money turned in to the office by Thursday, November 2. Many thanks to Coach Katie for organizing the Color Run walkathon. Everyone had a great time. Ms. Carla and Coach Katie will have the final numbers of laps and donations tallied soon, and we will have our awards presentations Thursday, November 2 during morning prayer. Since we are still under our goal of raising $50,000, Coach Katie has opened 99Pledges back up for more donations.
Halloween
Parents can come to the school and help students change into their costumes at 1:30 on Tuesday. Our parade will be in the gym at 2:00, followed by a story with Father Tim and Trunk or Treat in the Family Center parking lot. The 8th graders will organize the middle school trunk or treat vehicle. Please remember to send a bag of candy with your student.
All Saints Day
Wednesday, November 1, is All Saints Day. We will be on the Friday schedule. Students should wear their mass uniform. All students are welcome to dress as a Saint and walk in with Father Tim at mass.
All Souls Day
According to Google, sometime in the 10th century, the Catholic priest St. Odilo of Cluny instituted All Souls' Day—a day to pray for the souls of deceased family members. People commonly pray the
“Eternal Rest Prayer for the Dead”
on All Souls' Day: “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. We will have an ofrenda,
composed of mementos, photographs and objects of loved ones who have died and is intended to honor and remember their lives.
Students, staff, and teachers can bring a framed picture of their deceased family members to place on the ofrenda.
Works of Mercy Project
We will start our Works of Mercy semester 1 project on Monday, November 6.
- Students in pre-school through 1st grade are asked to donate items to Birthright. The director said they need new baby items, like newborn and 3 - 6 month clothes, diapers, wipes... They also need new or used clothing in sizes 18 months to 2T. They also need jackets in all sizes.
- Students in 2nd through fourth grades are asked to bring food for PATH. They ACCEPT DONATIONS OF NON- PERISHABLE FOOD IN BOXES, JARS, AND CANS. They RECOMMEND SAUCES, PASTA, SOUPS, BEANS, RICE, PEANUT BUTTER, VEGETABLES AND FRUIT.
- Students in grades 5 through 8 are asked to bring clothing for Catholic Charities. Items needed include socks, gloves, hats, coats, and blankets.
- We will deliver these items as a group on Friday, November 17 at 1:00 PM.
Christmas Program
Our Christmas Program has been scheduled for Monday, December 11 at 6:00 PM in the church.
Please know that you are always welcome to join us for morning prayer. It is truly the best 10 minutes of every day where we say a decade of the Rosary, and the pledges to our country and state. Seeing all of our students, teachers, and staff together, praying as one, and pledging our allegiance as one, is most definitely the best way to change our world for the better.
With great respect,
Kelly
